The Turquoise

Every year since I can remember, my family and I have taken a beach vacation. We are quite lucky to be only 4 hours away from a sandy white beach, and this year we decided to try a new condo.  The Turquoise Place Resort is located in Orange Beach, Alabama, just a few steps away from the Florida boarder. There is a huge pool, lazy river & ginormous fitness center.

I was mesmerized by all the gorgeous light fixtures, and could seriously hang out in this lobby all day! The 42″ chandelier, appropriately name Lillie, hangs over an 84″ diameter antiqued mirrored table. Both pieces are customs from Niermann Weeks.

Isn’t this lighting detail so fun & unique!

All items are appropriately scaled for the expansive space. Notice the floor lamps below- they are massive, but would have gotten lost if they were any more slender.

Did you notice the acrylic furniture legs? Oh the little details!

The end. Period. Need I say more?

When I looked back through my vacation pictures, I noticed something…there were no pictures of people! Not a single one! No children, no spouse, no nieces, nada. Yikes! I was in work mode for sure and was glued to the sofa finishing up the powerpoint for an LSU Leisure Course – Interior Decorating. There’s a new one starting in the fall, did you know? Check it out!

I promise to post pics of the family soon!

Vegas Isn’t Just For Sinners!

This past weekend my husband planned a birthday get-a-way to Las Vegas! I know it gets a bad rap because of the crack head gamblers. That’s not our thing how we roll (pun intended), but it’s certainly an architect and designer’s dream and worth going at least once. Every inch is covered in details, and no expense is spared to outdo the hotel next door. I’ll talk about some of the hotels in the next post.

He really pulled out all the stops and booked a room in the Sky Suites of the Aria Hotel in a 1-BR Penthouse. It’s in the center of the strip, so the location is perfect and is in walking distance to most of the shows and other hotels. Seriously, I was stunned when I walked in. (I snuck a peak at the Aria online a few weeks prior…sorry honey) and guess I looked at the regular rooms because they sho’ didn’t look like this!

The first picture was the entry with crystal sconces.

The living room had automated draperies, lighting and music.

The bathroom had a separate dressing area, steam shower, and heated toilet seat! (I think this was my hubb’s fav part of the room, haha)

Check out the floorplan with 1465 sq.feet. I definately didn’t want to leave.

Thanks Bryan for a wonderful birthday weekend!

Beach Destination – Caliza Pool in Alys Beach, Florida

Notice the scale of the inviting entrance of the Caliza Pool in Alys Beach, Florida. Exclusive to community residents and guests, this amazing space is surrounded by Dominican limestone, or caliza in Spanish. Only a 5 hour drive from Baton Rouge, it features a 50′ x 100′ saltwater pool, a separate family pool, 75-foot lap pool, and spa whirlpool.

Saltwater pool

Beneath the beautiful landcape, lies a hidden spa whirlpool.

A poolside iPod port enables guests to swim laps while enjoying their own music selections underwater. (Fun Fact: Sound travels about 4 times faster under water)

Open-air loggia

Private cabanas are available for rent. (see next 2 pictures below)

Relax under the palm trees…

…or under these canopied daybeds.

Cruising with Kravet & Lee Jofa

I stumbled upon Kravet’s Inspired News Travel Issue where they feature Oceana Cruise Line’s new Ship Marina. Their vision was to have more of a residential feel with separate dining choices, much larger rooms and more personal space.

The Owner’s Suites were designed by Dakota Jackson and feature luxurious interiors by Ralph Lauren Home, Lee Jofa & Kravet. In designing this ship, they were serious about listening to the client – large bathrooms featuring granite and marble vanity tops, tile floors, rain shower heads, and a separate shower and bathtub.
This is the entry level room, the Penthouse Suite at 420 sf. (below)
What an impressive floorplan!
Dine in the exclusive Privee’ restaurant for a party of 8.
I’m on board!

Alys Beach – A White Lover’s Dream

If you’re considering Hawaii for vacation, you may want to rethink the long flight and head over to Alys Beach. The sand along the Panhandle beaches in Florida is powder white, and the ocean is crystal-clear. (Did I mention warm too?) This town is also founded on the New Urbanist concept – balancing private and shared spaces. It is a luxury community with pedestrian walkways, nature trails, parks, secret gardens & a neighborhood coffee shop within walking distance of each home. Need I say more!?

Nature Trails

Take note: all white roofs!

I was very sad to leave. If you love Alys beach as much as I do, hang around…you’ll see a world famous pool – only available to Alys Beach residents & renters. (I was able to score a private tour!)

Lonny Mag features New Orleans

Lonny Mag is an online magazine all about fashion and decor. This month they are featuring stories in our own back yard.  They preview the French Quarter, Magazine Street and my favorite New Orleans hotel, The International House. I found this hotel several years ago by googling “swanky N.O. hotels”. You’ll see what I mean by the pictures!

I love a good makeover. Isn’t their office fab!
