Inspiration & Undertones

Do you know what color undertone my new Anthropologie necklace is? (**Try to guess before scrolling down!**)

Did you peak?

The lightest beads are a bluish/purple, and the darker beads are a purplish/pink. Recognizing undertones is vital to selecting paint color for your walls. The most common question I get from friends & family (and strangers) is: “What color should I paint my walls?” The answer depends on EVERYTHING else going in the room! What are your upholstery colors? Flooring? Countertops? Bedding? Artwork? Do you want to feel energized? Calm? There is also color psychology involved.

If you live near Baton Rouge and want to learn how to select the right color for your home, you won’t want to miss this class!

We will also talk about inspiration and determining a starting point for decorating your home. This week, I was inspired by my outfit for the guest bath!

Year End Review: Looking Back on 2012

I’ve been MIA on the blog lately, so here’s a chance to see all the things I’ve been up to lately. This is the first time I’ve done a Year End Review for myself, and if you’ve never done one, I encourage you to take a sheet of paper and write down each month. As the month ends, write down all your accomplishments. You’ll be amazed at what you’ve done.

So, here goes: In 2012 I…..

1. Taught a Leisure Course at LSU: Decorating Basics, and I’ll be teaching another starting next Thursday. Sign up and bring a friend…we’ll learn a ton and have lots of fun!

2. Was selected as a Style Spotter and trendsetter for Fall High Point Furniture Market.

3. Spoke about design trends on a Pinterest panel at High Point Market.

4. Was featured in The Advocate newspaper, In Register magazine, and BusinessReport.com.

5. Tried out for HGTV’s Design Star and got a second call back! (Before going on the casting call, I mentioned I wanted to be on Design Star…someone in my immediate family said, “And thousands of people want to win the lottery too.”)

6. Hired by a pro athlete to design their second home!

7. Invited by Brizo to NY Fashion Week for Jason Wu’s runway show. This was one of the most surreal events I’ve ever been to. I had chills, I had tears!

8. Shot a professional video for a behind the scenes Furniture Market tour.

9. Am now a featured designer on HGTV.com’s Designers’ Portfolio!

10. Hired a designer for my team! (You’ll meet Amy this week)

All of this would not be possible without the motivation & tools from my business coach, Tobi Fairley, and the support from amazing friends I’ve met along the way (too many to mention here!) I remember the words from Robert Kiyosaki, “The reason I’m successful is because I have people better than me on my team: a smarter attorney, a banker that knows more than me, etc.” So….if you want to go further in life, get people on your team that can dream bigger dreams than you ever even imagined for yourself!

Words of Wisdom That Will Change Your Life

During college, there was a major shift in my life, and I can trace it back to one thing: A little fat notebook. I would write down any encouraging quotes, wise thoughts and took diligent notes during sermons. Every day before work, I would read the highlighted notes at red lights and in the parking lot before walking in. What I looked back later and learned, was that “I” set the tone for my day. When I read the encouraging notes, I would walk around positive and encouraged no matter what happened around me. I simply controlled my environment. But the days I would skip my notes, sure enough, I would let someone else’s actions result in my bad attitude. I was purposeful for setting the tone of my day and retraining my thoughts.

“Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words.
Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions.
Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits.
Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character.
Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny.”
-Author unknown

I’ve definitely been in a season of walking by faith and not by sight, and I hope my 2013 notes from Tony Robbins’ audio book “Awaken the Giant Within” will encourage you to set the tone of your life!

GOALS
  • An average person with clear goals will run circles around a genius who is not really sure what he/she wants.
  • Have a map. Plan a course of where you’re going.
  • Set your baseline standards for what you’ll accept for your life because it’s all too easy to slip into behaviors and attitudes and even a quality of life that’s far below what you deserve. Set and live by these standards no matter what happens.

ACTIONS

  • The difference in the results that people produce comes down to what they’ve done differently from others in the same situation.
  • Different actions produce different results. Any action is a cause set in motion and its effect builds on past effects to move us in a definitive direction. Every direction leads to an ultimate destination, or our destiny.
  • “What is not started today is never finished tomorrow.”  -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

DECISIONS

  • Decision = Cutting off any other possibility
  • What proceeds our actions is our decisions.
  • Your destination will be based on your decisions versus how you feel.
  • Decide what you will focus on.
  • If there is no new action, you haven’t really made a decision.

COMMITMENTS

  • Make a commitment in your decisions v/s stating a preference.
  • His whole life changed when he determined not what he would like in his life or who he wanted to become, but when he decided who and what he was committed to having and being in his life.
  • Make commitments not excuses.
  • “The moment one definitely commits ones self, then providence moves too.” – Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” -Winston Churchill

Will today be the day you finally decide that who you are as a person is much more than you’ve been demonstrating?

I would love to know what books, audiobooks, etc. motivate and inspire you! Please leave a comment below.
