Adore Home – Online Magazine

There has been a recent explosion of free online interior design magazines, and Adore Home Magazine is one of the many I subscribe to. The Australian based magazine features beautiful homes from across the globe, and this month’s mag features Canadian actor turned designer, Peter Wilds. He designed this magnificent space by juxtaposing elegant and raw materials. The building was formerly used to house athletes for Vancouver’s 2010 Olympics and was converted into 2-Bedroom condos.

7 Tips for Beautiful Roman Shades

1. Always have roman shades lined for a custom look, durability and for protection from the sun.

2. Consider interlining when shade when fabric is thin. (a shade without proper lining/interlining can look like limp hair on a bad hair day)

3. Have cord installed behind the shade for a seamless look when shade is down.

4. When multiple “relaxed” shades are installed next to each other, make sure all windows are the same width. If not, the bottom swag will be different sizes.

5. Consider a valance when outside mounting a shade. If not, you will see the mounting board from the side.

6. Add banding for a decorative look.

7. Always have shades made by a custom workroom – your quality and attention to details will depend on it!

Wallcovering As an Accent Wall

And you thought wallpaper was out? It is making a huge comeback, but is now referred to, the more elegant term: wallcovering. If you’ve been following Bravo’s Flipping Out, you have probably seen Jeff Lewis’ office. This is a great way to accent a wall, and a lot more inexpensive than covering a whole room. You can buy this fab wallcovering on the Jeff Lewis Design website, along with drum pendant shades covered in this pattern, fabric, and pillows!

This show is probably my next favorite to Million Dollar Decorators. Jeff keeps me laughing out loud with his sarcastic humor and his employees that have a common theme – they are stuck in the 80’s.

The next 3 rooms are by Sarah Richardson…she likes this style too, I see.

Have you used a painted pattern or wallcovering as an accent wall in your home or office?

Beach Destination – Caliza Pool in Alys Beach, Florida

Notice the scale of the inviting entrance of the Caliza Pool in Alys Beach, Florida. Exclusive to community residents and guests, this amazing space is surrounded by Dominican limestone, or caliza in Spanish. Only a 5 hour drive from Baton Rouge, it features a 50′ x 100′ saltwater pool, a separate family pool, 75-foot lap pool, and spa whirlpool.

Saltwater pool

Beneath the beautiful landcape, lies a hidden spa whirlpool.

A poolside iPod port enables guests to swim laps while enjoying their own music selections underwater. (Fun Fact: Sound travels about 4 times faster under water)

Open-air loggia

Relax under the palm trees…

…or under these canopied daybeds.

Tribal African JuJu Hat As Wall Art

In African tribal villages, the Tyn or Juju hat is worn by royalty chiefs or prominent members of society during royal affairs, weddings or funerals. This beautiful adornment is made from multi-colored, white or dyed bird feathers. The hats are a symbol of prosperity, wealth & the positive qualities associated with birds.

When not in use, it can be folded inward for storage, but has been seen lately as beautiful wall applications.

Stylish Party Decorating On a Budget

Mindy Weiss is a proclaimed celebrity event planner and has appeared on The Nate Berkus Show several times. Although she can style very lavish parties, she came up with a creative tablescape on a budget. Mindy bought paper streamers and did a basketweave pattern for the main focal point of the table and mixed faux with real flowers. Wouldn’t this be a great idea for a child’s birthday party!?

I have to say, I was on a little basket weave kick for a while, which inspired me to come up with this gift wrap. I used the same idea, but with ribbon & found stick on letters (of course the baby’s outfit was grey & yellow).

Have I admitted my gift wrapping obsession yet? Just wait until Christmas!
