Pound Cake and Pearls

Have you been looking for the perfect nude polish with a hint of color? Well, look no more! The color is Pound Cake by essie. (Now I’m second guessing myself, maybe it’s Angel Food. Nonetheless, it’s one of the two.) I wonder if Amy was inspired by this polish?

My intern and friend, Amy Maddry, is so fun and creative. On the weekends, she helps her mom, a floral designer, with weddings and such. Look at this gorgeous candy table she styled for a lucky bride….

Did you notice the pearls?

Timeless With Color

“Monochromatic palettes are particularly timeless as colors sometimes have trends.  However, that said, if you do a room right any color can be timeless paired with the right furniture pieces and design.”  -Sara Story

Million Dollar Decorators

Have you seen the new Bravo TV series, “Million Dollar Decorators”?  Five Los Angeles-based designers transform homes and lives of the affluent including celebrities Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne. These A-listers are extremely entertaining and quick-witted just as I expected.

Left to Right: Mary McDonald, Jeffrey Alan Marks, Nathan Turner, Kathryn Ireland, Martyn Lawrence Bullard

Isn’t Martin Lawrence Bullard’s Office Fab! But don’t make him mad, because in his words, “If I get really wound up, I manage to raise my heavily botox’d eyebrow and scare everybody”!!!

A sneak peak inside Sharon’s abode…she usually prefers antiques and distressed pieces, but wanted to take a modern approach in her Hollywood apartment.

oh, Mary…

I found this office for Mary McDonald online…Look closely at the sisal rug…

It looks like she did a little revamping. She laughed as she said on the show that she didn’t really choose Glamour (as a design style)…it chose her! (not sure if I can really argue!)

Now look at the sisal! (below) Brilliant!

Bookshelves – From Cheap to Chic

There have been a few times random sporadic moments, usually 11 p.m. or later, when I wanted to organize and couldn’t wait for custom shelving. When one of these sudden cleaning tangents occurs, I need the tools to accessorize and I need them now! I’m guilty of running to Target, Walmart or Office Depot (ok, really all of them, and whatever is closest to the home or office) to find those dreaded put-it-together-your-own-self bookcases. In case you’re wondering, I’m the handy one around the house. I have a secret tool stash in an un-named location (you D.I.Y.’ers know what I’m talking about), and it’s not the pink set. Although, I would love one of those. So if any member of my family is reading this, that would be a fab present. Oh, if you can find pink with rhinestones, that would be an added bonus. My family is forbidden to buy me presents, including my husband. Well, one of my identical twin sisters is allowed – more on this later – let’s just say she got the design gene. I said all that to say…Look what I found in a magazine today!!!

I know just the bookshelf that needs a little TLC!  I found the article in the Woman’s Day Special Interest magazine. You basically wrap foam-core board with fabric, wallpaper, or wrapping paper. Use spray adhesive to adhere to foam-core and hot glue the foam-core to the shelves, with perhaps a little adhesive tape too. The directions say spray one side of the foam-core with spray adhesive, but we quickly learned in Design School to spray both the thing you’re attaching and the thing you’re attaching to… let dry, then stick together proves the best results. If you try it first, let me know!

Elle Decor Modern Life Concept House

Continuing with the tour of Blogfest, we were able to visit the Elle Decor Modern Life Concept House.  They have partnered with Housing Works to continue the support of their mission of ending homelessness and AIDS. This New York condo features 10 designers who transform these spaces in creative ways for big city living.

Yes, NY was fab, but it was also a lot of work lugging around a big camera and getting the perfect shot (move it people!)

This master bedroom (below) was transformed by Marie Turner. I was able to meet her in person, and her outfit was as lovely as her space.

Aren’t the candle sconces gorgeous!
